Fundraiser for Camilla

Individual fundraiser

Location: Beijing

Details:

After years of trying for a baby, in February 2019 Coro and Marco received unexpected happy news. They were pregnant with a girl, their miracle baby: Camilla.
However on 18 August Coro was diagnosed with a severe case of preeclampsia, a pregnancy complication that, if left untreated, can lead to serious or fatal complications for mother and baby. The most effective treatment is delivery of the baby. So on 19 August, Camilla was born 15 weeks prematurely.
The original fundraiser for the stay in hospital and the associated hospital fees has already met it's goal. Currently the family is raising funds for Camillas aftercare.

HOPE Beijing

Equestrian therapy for children with disabilities

Location: Beijing

What they do:

HOPE is a nonprofit organization offering Equine-Assisted Activities and Therapies (EAAT) founded in 2009 by Dr. Priscilla Lightsey, PT, DPT, MA, HPCS. Our EAAT sessions involve a partnership between the horse and a human. Participants may learn to groom, lead, ride, and care for a horse. These activities may facilitate growth in a variety of areas - often much faster than in a clinical or academic setting. Many skills can be enhanced by EAAT: gross and fine motor skills, listening, following directions, communication, and patience.
The majority of the HOPE annual budget relies heavily on donations. Their community partners pay no fees, but they charge for services on a sliding scale for other participants. Their annual budget is devoted to horse care, riding equipment, transportation and lunches for children from orphanages and their volunteers, and salary and training for staff members.

Hope Orphan Preschool

Schooling and emergency medical care for orphaned children in Kenya

Location: Kenya

What they do:

In August 2008, Alan Coyne moved to Kenya to volunteer with a local charity (MEWA Hospital). He met two wonderful Kenyans, Fred Mulama and Miriam Ossoso. They were, together with Sarah Baert, volunteering their own time and money to help the poorest kids in the area.
The local children were wandering the streets all day, often in poor health and malnourished. The slum was really unsafe, crime was high and many people who travel from the countryside in the hope of a job end up living in tin shacks with very little prospect of any work in the city. These realities prompted the four of them to start helping these kids and the program took off.
Currently, on top of a preschool and a primary school, there are plans for building a secondary school as well.
