The gears support the aircraft on the ground and include oleo-pneumatic shock absorbers that absorb taxi and landing loads. During flight the L/G is retracted into bays. Mechanically and hydraulically operated doors close to make the aerodynamic contours when the L/G retracts. The hydraulically operated doors also close after the L/G is extended.
Two independent braking systems control the operation of the brakes, a normal braking system and an alternate braking system. Anti-skid protection is available in each system to give maximum braking efficiency. Braking without anti-skid is also available with the alternate braking system. A parking braking system that is manually set is available. A brake temperature system shows related data on the Electronic Instrument System (EIS) Ref. AMM D/O 31-60-00-00 in the cockpit.
